Jon Thompson Recognized for Key Role in Fire Station’s New Location

Jon Thompson is awarded for his role in planning a new firestation.

Jon Thompson, principal consultant of J Thompson Professional Consulting, was recently recognized for his role in facilitating the new location of the North Hays County Fire & Rescue Fire Station 74. The Emergency Services District 6 (ESD 6) broke ground this spring with a one-year construction plan.

The location of the new station, east of downtown Dripping Springs at Sawyer Ranch & Belterra Drive is ideal to serve the growing and expanding population in that area. At the ground-breaking ceremony, EDS 6 thanked Thompson personally for his “bird-dogging” to make the location a reality.

“I became aware that North Hays County Fire Rescue was looking for a property for its new station, so I kept an eye out for opportunities and this piece of land came to mind. Its location just off Hwy 290 and Belterra Drive was ideal – so all the pieces came together,” said Thompson.

“The fact that it’s not right next to a residential area was also a plus. This was an ideal plot of land for institutional use, and having a relationship with the developer of Belterra, I called them. I thought there was a chance this land hadn’t been accounted for in their development plans. The question then became just whether there was water and wastewater which for the purposed of a fire station there was,” he said. That introduction, made about three years ago, led to this site being chosen. It’s a lengthy process but worth it when it is a win/win.

“This station will be a great public asset,” Fire Chief Scott Collard said. “We appreciate Ashlar Development’s generosity in providing the land at a reasonable price. This area of our community is experiencing tremendous growth and the new fire station will be designed to house the apparatus and personnel require to meet the demand on our system.”

As principal of J Thompson Professional Consulting, Jon draws from years of experience in the public and private sectors to define solid strategy, streamline procedures and optimize site configuration. This is another example of his commitment to community and relationship building for optimal results. Turning vision into victory.
